The current LNG production climate has had significant growth driven by increasing global demand for cleaner energy sources. Major LNG-producing countries, such as the United States, Australia, and Qatar, continue to invest in expanding their liquefaction capacity to meet this rising demand. Advancements in technology and innovation improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of LNG production. We have been a part of these efforts because of our breadth and depth of experience in LNG. Most recently we completed design, manufacture, and delivery of over 200 LNG troughs over 40 feet long to meet the newly established FERC requirements around spillage.

Cold Shoes to be Shipped to Puerto Rico

Cold Shoes to be Shipped to Puerto Rico

Normal pipeline insulation is not designed to support the pipe or its contents. When insulated pipes are supported, the weight of the pipe, the contents, the operating temperature, and the amount of energy loss must be considered.  In order to support the pipe and minimize energy loss from heat transfer, a pre-insulated pipe support is necessary.   If the material in the pipe is high temperature such as high pressure steam or heating oil, then high temperature insulation is required, and these supports are called hot shoes.  If the material is cold, such as liquefied natural gas, cooling water or ammonia, then low temperature insulation is needed, and these types of supports are called cold shoes.

PT&P received the order to fabricate 140 cold shoes from a contractor in Puerto Rico. The overall weight of the order was 11,000 lbs and was produced in 8 weeks. The shoes were designed to support 8, 10 and 12 inch pipe sizes with 2 inches of insulation. They were designed using our Pipe Shields Division and correspond to the following model numbers: B2000, B4000,and C4100. These can be seen on our Pipe Shields website or you can request a catalog.

These pre-insulated pipe supports were manufactured for a Houston based engineering and construction company to complete an on-going project in South Africa. The polyurethane foam insulation is wrapped with a vapor barrier to prevent moisture, and the ends are coated with a monolar mastic paint to seal the pores. The carbon steel fabrication that surrounds the insulation has an elaborate three-coat paint system to help protect the steel from corrosion. This design allows for an integral combination of insulation and structural support in one pipe support assembly. It also minimizes labor in the field in regards to the installation of insulation.

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. manufactured cryogenic pipe anchors for gas refinery in Savannah, Georgia. The pipe anchors were fabricated with stainless steel and insulated with polyurethane foam. In order to prevent cold pumping, better known as temperature driven moisture penetration, polyurethane foam was poured around a stainless steel reinforcing pad. The ten cryogenic pipe anchors were fabricated to support 4-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch pipes. PT&P’s pre-insulated pipe supports department is devoted to the production of pipe insulation productions for both hot and cold applications.
