The flow rate is theamount of liquid passing through a particular area over a period of time. It isgenerally measured in gallons per a minute or cubic feet per meter.

How does an orifice plate work?
The small hole on orifice plates restricts flow which causes the pressure to drop. The pressurecan be measured using pressure gauges before and after the orifice plates whichallows you to determine the flow rate using the Bernoulli’s Equation. Anorifice plate is installed between orifice flanges or a metering unit.
What is an orifice plate?
Anorificeplateis a device used formeasuring flow rate. It is a thin plate with a hole in the middle that isusually placed in a pipe where fluid flows.
The picture above shows special components of today’s piping systems. At the top are two rings with machined surfaces required to help seal the system when operating at high pressures. Rings and spacers can be fabricated from a variety of metals including carbon steels, stainless steels, alloys such as Inconel®, Hastelloy or Titanium. The choice of materials depends on the temperatures and pressures the system is designed for. Holes can be drilled to produce bleed rings which relieve pressure slowly.
