PTFE Slide Plate Inspection and Maintenance

October 9, 2017

Follow these steps when inspecting and maintaining PTFE slide plates.

1. Inspect welds between backing plate and bottom of the saddle
2. Inspect adhesion of the PTFE slide plate
3. Inspect welds of the base plate of the bottom slide plate between the structural steel
4. Make sure you have a clean surface between the upper and lower slide plates

HD-2 and HD-3 Hold-down Pipe Clamps with PTFE Slide Plates

July 30, 2012

HD-2 and HD-3 Hold-down Pipe Clamps

Designed for 20″ to 30″ pipe sizes, these HD-2 and HD-3 hold-down pipe clamps were shipped to a gas pump station in South Dakota. The hold downs were fabricated from carbon steel with PTFE, 25% glass filled liners on the saddle portion and base of the pipe clamp. We fabricated a total of 22 hold down pipe clamps and shipped this rush job within one week.

113 F-Type Variable Spring Cans with PTFE Slide Plates

July 16, 2012

113 F-Type Variable Spring Cans with PTFE Slide PlatesThese F-Type variable spring cans were designed with PTFE, 25% glass filled slide plates for a local oil refinery. Slide plates are used to reduce the friction between the load flange of the spring and the pipe support. This allows for easier adjustment of the spring’s installed height. These variables include external travel stops. The external travel stops are sometimes referred to as universal travel stops and can be utilized to adjust the installed load (also called the cold load) to other installed loads within the working range of the spring. 113 variable springs were supplied for this job. The variables have an installed load ranging from 95 lb. to 11,000 lb. and an operating load ranging from 90 lb. to 10,703 lb. They are part of a plant expansion and will be used to support horizontal piping in an oil refinery.

PTFE, 25% Glass Filled Slide Plates Bonded to Stainless Steel Backing Plates

October 17, 2011

PTFE, 25% glass filled slide plates bonded to stainless steel backing plates

The slide plates are comprised of 1/4″ thick PTFE, 25% glass filled slide plates bonded to 1/8″ A240 grade 316 L stainless steel backing plates. Stainless steel was used for better resistance to corrosion and longevity. The assemblies measure 83″ long by 20″ wide and will be installed underneath a bridge. A total of 16 slide plates were fabricated and designed for a pressure of 500 psi at ambient temperature. PTFE, 25% glass filled material provides a low coefficient of friction, is easy to install, does not require surface treatments, or grouting, and is unaffected by weather conditions.

Measuring Overall Length of the Support

Fifty Pre-Insulated Cryogenic Supports with PTFE, 25% Glass Filled, Slide Plates were manufactured for a 36” stainless steel piping system. The steel portion of the Cryogenic Supports is fabricated from ASTMA 240 Grade 304L stainless steel. The insulation used for the Slide Plate is Micarta, capable of supporting temperatures as low as -300°F. Each Pre-Insulated Cryogenic Support is 72” in length and weighs 2,000 lbs. It is designed to support the pipeline and accommodate 45” of axial travel at each support. They are used as Cryogenic Pipe Supports for a piping system that crosses a 1,000 foot suspension bridge.
