Riser Clamps
The most common method for supporting vertical piping would be to first weld shear lugs into position, and then utilize a riser clamp which straddles the pipe. The load is then transferred by the riser clamp’s load bolts through hanger rod connections to our supporting structure.
22″ Diameter Riser Clamps
This carbon steel riser clamp is designed for an operating load of 22,400 lb. at 650°F, and has a hot-dipped galvanize finish. It is fabricated from 1¾” x 12″ bar stock with an overall length of 86″. PT&P has an extensive inventory of all types of pipe clamps made from carbon steel with galvanized or black finishes. Clamps from alloy steels for high-temperature applications are also available.

The riser clamps are 54″ in diameter and custom designed to be installed in the Emission Control Unit of a 1600 MW coal fired power plant in Texas. The clamps include neoprene lining adhesively bonded to the carbon steel to protect the FRP pipe. Prior to assembly, the riser clamps received a coat of Red Alkyd Primer to prevent rust and resist moisture and corrosion.

PT&P recently designed and manufactured six, PTP-4-160 type C variable springs with riser clamps for an oil refinery in Texas. These variable springs are constructed from carbon steel and designed to support loads of 6600 lb. with a total travel of 2″. The clamps are fabricated from A 387 Gr. 22 alloy steel to fit 18″ pipes. Dimensional and fit-up tests were performed on the variable springs and riser clamps prior to shipping.
