Sway struts are used to restrain movement of piping in one direction while providing for movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction. These sway struts are made of ASTM A387 GR22 weighing at 1,485 lbs each. They are 6″ in diameter and 8’2″ long and are used for main steam valve supports with specifically designed spacers, pins, and retainers capable of restraining movement up to 90,000 lbs at high temperatures exceeding 750F. The turnaround time for this was 6 weeks.
Roller stands are used to support pipelines that expand and contract longitudinally in the axial direction and where vertical adjustment is not necessary. These roller stands are made of stainless steel and designed for a 26″ pipe. They weigh 160 lbs and are capable of supporting 7,500 lbs. Load testing at 1,000F was completed for performance assurance.
Constant support hangers are used to support pipes subjected to vertical movement. The (Fig. PTP 200) constants are designed to support loads from 4,000 lbs to 57,000 lbs. Each weighs approximately 1,500 lbs to 2500 lbs and has a travel of up to 4″ with an adjustable travel stop. Their sizes range from 15 to 100.
The advantage of an adjustable travel stop is that the constant is able to “lock in” at any position within the range of travel for a given constant. This alleviates the need for a total “shut down” of the piping system for temporary conditions such as hydrotesting, repair, or replacement.
These cold shoes are made of polyurethane with an 8″ thick insulation to fit a 30″ pipe. The shoes are capable of insulating and supporting at temperatures as low as -360F. This allows for the LNG to be transported through the pipe at extremely low temperatures. These cold shoes were rushed to our client during a “turnaround” to replace the original supports that had failed.
These constant hanger assemblies are used to support piping systems subjected to vertical movement. They are capable of supporting loads ranging from 3,000 lbs to 63,000 lbs with a travel range of 5″. They have dimension between 73″ long, 36″ tall, and 23″ wide to 80″ long, 27″ tall, and 12 3/4 ” wide. Standard testing was performed for quality assurance.
Constant hangers provide constant support for pipes subject to vertical movement due to thermal expansion. These Type E Constant Hangers are made from carbon steel ranging from 5 to 7 in length. Their applicable loads range from 17,300 lbs to 30,000 lbs. The total travel ranges from 2 to 9 . Standard constant load testing was performed for quality assurance per customers request.
Piping Technology and Products, Inc. designed and fabricated cylinder pipe guides (aka spider guides) for pipes ranging from 1” to 20” in diameter with 1” to 4” of insulation.
These guides are designed to control lateral pipe movement and maintain the alignment of the piping through its axial and contraction cycles. A single piping run uses multiple spider guides to avoid a fulcrum or an imposed lateral deflection on critical components.
Components of these guides include carbon steel plates, stock clamps, angles and hot-dipped galvanized pipes. The outer shields have diameters ranging from 6″ to 29-1/2″. The maximum design temperature for the spider guides is 750°F.
In addition to spider guides, over 40,000 lbs. of material were supplied for this project including variable springs, constants, and miscellaneous structural items.

These rod hangers and riser clamps are made of carbon steel. They are capable of supporting 6 to 16 diameter pipes and loads of up to 2,435 lbs. They are used to support and stabilize piping systems and withstand temperatures up to 650 F. The shipment weighed 21,200 lbs.
These cold shoes are used for anchoring pipelines against movement caused by thermal expansion and by fluid flow in the pipe. The total weight of the 10 cold shoes is 8,336 lbs. They have 4 1/2″ of insulation and are made to fit a 12″ pipe. Their length varies between 18″ to 24″ for 6″ to 12″ of axial movement. The cold shoe is made of polyurethane insulation and A36 carbon steel. They are drop-in-place anchors that only need to be welded into the pipe run and fastened to the pipe rack. They were manufactured to specific design loads and movements for an LNG plant in Georgia.
These PTP-200 type C constants measure 23″ x 64″. are designed for an operating capacity of 14,400 lbs and a travel range of 4″. The constants are made of A36 carbon steel and weigh 1,770 lbs each. They have been modified to accommodate a specialized spring coil and have a modified casing. Standard load and travel testing were performed prior to shipping to ensure quality.
These assemblies are used to control a maximum shock load of 1,500 lbs within a piping system. Each Snubber was supplied with a custom designed yoke made from Chrome-Moly (A387 Gr.91), supplied with a stainless steel u-bolt and protection saddle. The travel capacity ranges from 1″ to 5″. All of the custom designed variables consist of a single flange with two spring supports in order to meet the customer’s height restrictions. These PTP1-140 Type F variable springs are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with an overall weight of 16,900 lbs. They are designed for upward movement of 0.079″ with a hot load of 4,490 lbs., and a cold load of 4,620 lbs.

New Patent for a High Temperature Support for Insulated Pipes
PT&P has developed a high capacity support for insulated pipes which does not rely on the insulation to carry any of the load. The design has several advantages over previous designs:
- Since the insulation does not carry any mechanical load, it can be chosen solely on the basis of its thermal properties. In particular, cyclic loading, which has caused insulation failure, is not a problem.
- The support provides effective restraint for all six possible components of loads, X, Y, Z-Rotational and Translational. In particular, axial and torsional loads are readily accommodated. These represent difficulties for supports which rely on the insulation.
- It is easily installed in the field. It is attached to the pipe with a standard bolted pipe clamp. Thus there is no field welding.
The support consists of a shoe, similar to the PT&P Fig. 4500 Insulated Shoe Support for Hot Pipe (Hot Shoe) and two clamps, similar to the PT&P Fig. 50 Light Two Bolt Pipe Clamp. Each clamp is attached to the shoe by a steel plate which is designed to carry the design load, and is shape optimized to minimize heat flow from the pipe.
These three-bolt clamps were designed to support operating loads from 19,000 lbs. to 25,000 lbs. These clamps were custom designed for 650F and pipe sizes from 6 to 22. They are constructed of carbon steel with weight ranging from 28 lbs. to 322 lbs.
These air stacks were designed for 25 PSIG and 100F. They were fabricated from A106-B carbon steel. They are 20 in diameter x 624 long. Each stack weighs 4,395 lb. To ensure product quality, the Inlet Air Stacks were galvanized externally and internally.

This (PTP-13) size horizontal E-type constant is for an energy plant in Iowa. It measures 14″ 9″ 24″ with a total travel range of 5″ and an operating load of 388 lbs. It is fabricated out of A36 carbon steel, and weighs 95 lbs. Standard load and travel testing were performed on the constant prior to shipping to ensure quality.

Sweco Fab, Inc. recently fabricated an Air Receiver Tank for a Manufacturing Facility in Alabama. This 5,400 lbs tank measured 60″ 143″ tangent to tangent and was designed for 170 PSIG and 200 F. It was fabricated from SA516-70 carbon steel. The interior and exterior were painted with standard epoxy paint to provide an interior lining and exterior protection. The tank was hydrotested at 221 PSIG to ensure product quality.
The hot shoes were constructed using high temperature insulation made from calcium silicate, lined with a ceramic fiber blanket in a steel cradle (A36 Carbon Steel). The shoes were designed for 1500 F and a vertical load range between 25,000 lbs and 32,000 lbs, and the BOP was 10″. The overall diameter including 7″ of insulation is 49 7/8″. Belleville washers are used to hold bolt tension in pipeline with high frequency vibration.
