PT&P manufactured sway struts for one of the largest LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) operations in the world. LNG, considered a “Clean Energy” and recognized as the cleanest fossil fuel, is used in several ways in our daily lives for heating, cooking, and generating electricity. LNG is also used commercially to manufacture products like fertilizers, paper, glass, clothing, food processing, medicines, commercial vehicles in addition to generating electricity. The use of LNG helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions which helps to combat global warming. Piping Technology & Products manufactures sway struts for use in a wide range of applications in power, refineries, chemical, and solar plants to restrain movement in tension (or X plane) while allowing lateral movement (in the Y and Z plane). These Fig. 2100-F sway struts are designed with 4″ adjustment for loads up to 8,000 lb. The pins are fabricated from high alloy steel for added strength and the threaded rod ends are carbon steel and hot-dipped galvanized. The sway strut body was hot-dipped galvanized after the donut and pipe were welded. The rod ends and end brackets were galvanized a second time for added corrosion resistance after the holes for the IKO bearings and pins were enlarged to fit these component parts. The C-C dimensions are 42-1/4″, 41-1/2″, and 28″. A quality control inspection involving thread engagement and overall visual inspection was completed before shipment. In addition to sway struts, we have supplied over 3 million supports to LNG plants all over the world. PT&P has been a key supplier in LNG piping systems for almost every operator today.

Custom Sway Strut and Pipe Clamp Assemblies for an LNG Plant in Australia
PT&P fabricated and designed 52 of these custom sway strut assemblies for a liquid natural gas plant in Australia. These are manufactured from carbon steel with 304 stainless steel pins. The pipe sizes range from 2”-72” diameter, with a total length ranging from 27” to 137”. The sway struts are fabricated to restrain either tensile or compressive force in one direction while providing for movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction. These sway struts have an operating temperature of 650°F and are designed for operating loads ranging of 650 lb. to 120,000 lb.
Special Sway Struts Designed for an LNG Plant in Australia
PT&P custom designed and fabricated 67 mini sway strut assemblies for a liquid natural gas plant in Australia. The sway struts are fabricated from galvanized carbon steel with 304 stainless steel pins. They are 14-7/16” long and capable of a 62,200 lb. load with an operating temperature of 650°F. The sway struts are fabricated to restrain either tensile or compressive force in one direction while providing for movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction.
Sway Struts Custom Designed for a Chemical Plant in Texas
PT&P custom designed sway struts for a chemical plant located in Texas. The sway struts and rod hangers are both fabricated from carbon steel. The overall length of the support assemblies’ range from 31″ to 83″ and are capable of supporting loads up to 1,750 lb., with an operating temperature of 1100°F and 1 1/2″ of vertical movement. The sway struts are designed to restrain movement in one direction while providing movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction.
26'-9" Custom Designed Sway Struts with Ball Joints
These 26′-9″ long custom designed sway struts with ball joints were supplied for a power generating facility. There were 4 total assemblies that included 4″ diameter schedule 80 pipe with one ball joint and one extension piece on each end measuring 3″ in diameter and 6″ long. The sway struts, designed to support a load of 29,000 lb., will be used in the facility to allow movement between two structures along a parallel plane.
Large Custom Sway Struts Designed for a Liquid Filters Manufacturer
These custom fig. 2110, size 8 sway struts are for a liquid filters manufacturer located in Mississippi. Both sway struts have a 128,000 lb. load capacity and are fabricated from carbon steel with a hot-dipped galvanized finish. The sway struts measure 68-5/8″ long and have a 4″ diameter rod size. A load test was performed prior to an expedited shipping schedule of 1-1/2 weeks.

Ball-Joint Sway Strut Assemblies (20,000 lb. load, 96″ long) for an Ammonia Plant
The overall length of each sway strut is 96 inches. The pipe hanger assembly is designed to control 20,000 lb. of piping load during the system’s thermal expansion and contraction.
These sway struts have a ball joint located at each end connected by an extension rod that controls the piping system through its complete range of thermal piping movements. It is used to restrain movement of piping in one direction while providing for movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction.

240" Sway Strut for a Local Refinery
This sway strut is fabricated from carbon steel and measures 240″ from pin to pin. The pipe is 6″ in diameter and has a load capability of 15,000 lbs. The components were completed with a hot-dipped galvanize finish and the pipe was coated with a shop primer. The function of a sway strut is to restrain movement of piping in one direction while providing for movement due to thermal expansion or contraction in another direction.
This particular sway strut will support a 30″ process line in a refinery. This type of support is necessary, because the current line has only a few I-beams for support. Additionally, the I-beams that support the line are very high off the ground and not capable of handling the large forces acting on the line. Due to the loads acting upon the pipe and length of the required strut, a heavy schedule pipe and heavier duty strut ends were necessary.
