Big Ton Spring Supports Designed for Propane Dehydrogenation Facility

June 27, 2016

Big Ton Spring Supports Designed For Propane De-Hydrogenation Facility

PT&P custom designed big ton spring supports for a propane dehydrogenation facility in Texas. The components within these assemblies include the spring housing, load columns, travel stops, spring coils and lifting lugs. While both assemblies measure 42” x 24” x 26-1/2”, they were each modified based on independent specifications for operating loads and movement. The first will accommodate a load of 94,261 lb. and 0.085” of movement, while the second will accommodate a load of 102,219 lb. with 0.08” of movement.

This type of support is ideal for applications, such as pressure vessels, that combine very heavy loads with thermal expansion because of the stability they provide. The big tons were tested in the load cell to insure proper operation throughout the entire working range of the coils.

Variable Spring Support with Bronzphite® Slide Plates for a Facility in Canada

Variable Spring Support With Bronzphite® Slide Plates Designed For A Facility In Canada

PT&P manufactured these F-type variable spring supports for a facility in Canada. The springs are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with a hot-dipped galvanized finish. The variables installed heights range from 11″ to 15″ and are designed for operating conditions up to 4,000 lb. Bronzphite® is best suited for high loads, low velocity applications and where the use of oil or grease is undesirable or unfeasible. The bronze plate acts as the bearing surface, withstanding heavy loads, while the graphite inserts provide a solid, oil-free lubricant. As with all of our variable supports, these were quality checked with a 100% spring coil deflection test and a load cell calibration to set the assembly at the prescribed installed load.

300 Variable Spring Supports Designed for a Furnace Application

300 Variable Spring Supports Designed For A Furnace Application At A Methanol Processing Facility

PT&P designed and fabricated 300 variable spring supports for use in a furnace within a methanol processing facility in Mexico. We manufactured the ”housing” of these variable springs using seamless pipe (in order to prevent the springs’ coils from rubbing against the ”weld seam” of a standard pipe) so that the exact spring rate (+/- 5%) can be calculated without discrepancies or variations. The reason that an accurate spring rate is important is because furnace springs function as a ”scale” in order to determine the weight of the radiant coils within the unit. These springs are coated with red oxide primer to protect against corrosion. We manufactured these furnace spring assemblies for an operating load of 1,036 lb. and a movement up to 8 1/2″. Each spring is traceable to test data and tagged with its’ unique spring rate along with other standard information use for identification.

F-Type Variable Spring Supports Designed For A Chemical Processing

PT&P manufactured F-type variable spring supports for a chemical processing plant in Texas. The variables are designed with an internal guide and for a movement of 0.09″. They are designed for a 5,350 lb. cold load and 5,450 lb. hot load. Because these springs had to be capable of withstanding a hydro-test in excess of 33,000 lb. (which substantially exceeded the standard maximum hydro-test of 18,000 lb.), special collars were used in conjunction with the standard travel stops. These collars are designed to absorb the large hydro load by relying on the high strength characteristics of the load flange and housing components of the assembly while essentially bypassing the threaded internal components.

F-Type Variable Spring Supports Designed For An Lng Facility

PT&P manufactured F-type variable spring supports for an LNG facility in Colorado. The variables installed heights range from 10-5/8″ to 21-1/16″. The F-Type pipe hanger assembly is used to support the pipe from below and are typically mounted to concrete pads via anchor bolts or welded to structural steel. The various springs shown are designed for operating conditions ranging from loads of 633 lb. to 6510 lb. As with all of our variable supports, these were quality checked with a 100% spring coil deflection test and a load cell calibration to set the assembly at the prescribed installed load.

113 F-Type Variable Spring Cans with PTFE Slide Plates

July 16, 2012

113 F-Type Variable Spring Cans With Ptfe Slide PlatesThese F-Type variable spring cans were designed with PTFE, 25% glass filled slide plates for a local oil refinery. Slide plates are used to reduce the friction between the load flange of the spring and the pipe support. This allows for easier adjustment of the spring’s installed height. These variables include external travel stops. The external travel stops are sometimes referred to as universal travel stops and can be utilized to adjust the installed load (also called the cold load) to other installed loads within the working range of the spring. 113 variable springs were supplied for this job. The variables have an installed load ranging from 95 lb. to 11,000 lb. and an operating load ranging from 90 lb. to 10,703 lb. They are part of a plant expansion and will be used to support horizontal piping in an oil refinery.

G-Type Variable Spring Support Assemblies for an Expansion Project at an Oil Refinery

March 14, 2011

G-Type Variable Spring Support Assemblies For An Expansion Project At An Oil Refinery PTP-2 Type-G variable spring support assemblies were designed and fabricated for an expansion project at an oil refinery. The G-type spring is comprised of two standard variable spring housing-coil subassemblies joined together with an intermediate bridge assembly. The bridge assembly is customized to match existing site conditions, which allows for use in applications with limited space or interferences. This particular assembly was provided with extra large channels because the specified C-C dimension of 59″ exceeded the maximum (48″) of our standard G-type variable springs. The housings, internal components and channels were fabricated from carbon steel, and spring steel was used for the coils. The assembly was designed for a total operating load of 24,014 lb. with a design travel of 0.76″ upward.
