Trunnions Designed for a Cryogenic Pipeline at an LNG Facility

Type: Trunnions for Cryogenic Temperatures
Size: 8″-24″ Dia. | 12″-18″ L | 6″-15″ W | 6″-40″ H
Material: Micarta® G-10 Insulation | CS | SS
Design: Cryogenic Temperatures of -320°F
Testing: MTR’s | Non Destriuctive (PMI) | Q.C.

PT&P custom designed trunnions for a cryogenic pipeline at an LNG facility in Australia. The insulated supports were fabricated with carbon steel base plates, 304L stainless steel plates and fasteners. To prevent cryogenic temperatures of -320°F from transferring to the base of the trunnion support, Micarta® G-10 was used as insulator. The trunnions were designed to support pipe sizes from 8”-24” with dimensions ranging from 12”-18” in length, 6”-15” in width and 6”-40” in height. MTR’s were provided, and non-destructive testing (PMI) was preformed, along with standard Q.C. inspection prior to shipment.

This type of support is available in pipe sizes between 1/2″ to 42″ NPS; however, PT&P can customize any size needed. The standard material for these supports are galvanized or hot-dipped galvanized carbon steel. These supports were customized with Micarta® instead of the standard high density polyurethane with vapor barrier. When ordering, specify pipe size, insulation thickness and length. See more on Figure CS-6030 from our cryogenic pipe supports section.

Piping Technology & Products and Pipe Shields have been a major international supplier of pipe shoes and pre-insulated supports for more than 10 years. Our cryogenic pipe supports comply with the following standards ANSI / ASME B31.1 & B31.3 and The Manufacturers Standardization Society SP-58, 69, & 89.

Over 4,000 Cryogenic Pre-Insulated Pipe Supports Designed for LNG Service

Type: Pre-Insulated Pipe Shoe & Clamp Assemblies
Material: 304 L Stainless Steel | Protective Coating | Micarta® Insulation
Design: 20″ L x 36″ W x 75″ H | 56″ Dia. Pipeline | -459°F
Testing: Load & Pull Tests

PT&P designed over 4,000 supports for LNG service in Texas. These pre-insulated pipe shoe and clamp assemblies were custom designed for cryogenic temperatures with special low temperature grade NP500CR Micarta® insulation. This type of Micarta® consists of a glass fabric with a special formulated epoxy resin. It has excellent physical properties at operating temperatures down to -459°F. It has very low thermal conductivity and has been produced specifically for use in cryogenic applications. The shoes pictured are fabricated from 304 L stainless steel with a protective coating and are designed for a 56″ diameter pipeline. The shoes measure 20″ long, 36″ wide and 75″ high. This project included supports varied in pipe sizes from ¾” to 56″ diameter. A load test was performed prior to shipping this rush order.

Cryogenic Pipe Supports Designed for a Facility in Massachusetts

Cryogenic Pipe Supports Designed for a Facility in Massachusetts

Type: Cryogenic Pipe Supports
Material: Carbon Steel | Polyurethane
Design: -320°F | 36″ – 48″ Dia. | 52″ W x 57″ H x 67″ L

PT&P received an order to custom design 16 cryogenic pipe supports for a contractor in Massachusetts. They needed a pipe forming a T-section lined with insulation and trimmed to accommodate the pipe perpendicular to the shoe length. The overall dimensions of the order are pipe sizes ranging from 36″ to 48″ in diameter, 52″ width and 57″ to 67″ height. Our insulation is designed to support the pipe and its contents. When insulated pipes are supported, the weight of the pipe, the contents, the operating temperature, and the amount of energy loss must be considered. In order to support the pipe and minimize energy loss from heat transfer, a pre-insulated pipe support is necessary. If the material in the pipe is high temperature such as high pressure steam or heating oil, then high temperature insulation is required, and these supports are called hot shoes. If the material is cold, such as liquefied natural gas, cooling water or ammonia, then low temperature insulation is needed, and these types of supports are called cold shoes.
