Variable Spring Supports Designed For A Furnace Application In Oklahoma

Type: Variable Spring Supports
Design: 1,765 lb. Load | +/- 5% Spring Rate
Material: Carbon Steel with Red Oxide Primer
Testing: Standard Spring Rate & Calibration Tests

PT&P custom designed variable spring supports for a furnace application at a Nitrogen Facility in Oklahoma. The furnace springs are fabricated from carbon steel and painted with a red-oxide primer to help prevent corrosion. The spring supports are designed to support loads up to 1,765 lb. With a spring rate calibrated to be within +/- 5% of the theoretical value.

Big Ton Spring Supports Custom Designed For An Lng Facility

Type: Big Ton Spring Supports with PTFE Slide Plates
Size: 29-7/8″ x 29-7/8″ 16-1/2″
Material: Carbon Steel with HDG Finish | PTFE, 25% Glass Filled Slide Plate
Testing: Tested in a press connected to the load cell

PT&P custom designed big ton spring supports with PTFE slide plates for an LNG facility in Australia. The components within the spring housing include load columns, travel stops, spring coils and lifting lugs. Each assembly is designed for an operating load ranging from 16,276 lb. to 34,479 lb. and will allow for movement between 0.16″ and 0.24″. They are fabricated from hot-dipped galvanized carbon steel and measure 29-7/8″ x 29-7/8″ x 16-1/2″. The big ton spring support is ideal for applications that have very heavy loads with thermal expansion because of the stability they provide throughout the range of travel. These supports were tested in the press connected to a load cell to insure proper operation throughout the entire working range of the coils.

Constant Spring Support

This Webinar will focus on the different types of constant spring supports. Learn about the special features available, in addition to the design of a constant support. View how the different cam/coil configurations produce a unique response to an applied load. Discover the step by step process used to size a spring for your application. Learn about the different attachments, testing, and installation and maintenance procedures. View examples of failed supports provided by our Field Service Division and learn why they failed and how to prevent it. Gain knowledge of the valuable tips used when deciding to adjust or replace a constant spring support, as well as shutdown and isolation procedures.

The featured presenter, Jerry Godina has over 15 years experience as a pipe support designer and manages PT&P’s engineer training development program. He also inspects existing supports, consults on site remediation projects and oversees installation on a regular basis.

Big Ton Spring Supports Designed For Propane De-Hydrogenation Facility

PT&P custom designed big ton spring supports for a propane dehydrogenation facility in Texas. The components within these assemblies include the spring housing, load columns, travel stops, spring coils and lifting lugs. While both assemblies measure 42” x 24” x 26-1/2”, they were each modified based on independent specifications for operating loads and movement. The first will accommodate a load of 94,261 lb. and 0.085” of movement, while the second will accommodate a load of 102,219 lb. with 0.08” of movement.

This type of support is ideal for applications, such as pressure vessels, that combine very heavy loads with thermal expansion because of the stability they provide. The big tons were tested in the load cell to insure proper operation throughout the entire working range of the coils.

Variable Spring Support with Bronzphite® Slide Plates for a Facility in Canada

Variable Spring Support With Bronzphite® Slide Plates Designed For A Facility In Canada

PT&P manufactured these F-type variable spring supports for a facility in Canada. The springs are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with a hot-dipped galvanized finish. The variables installed heights range from 11″ to 15″ and are designed for operating conditions up to 4,000 lb. Bronzphite® is best suited for high loads, low velocity applications and where the use of oil or grease is undesirable or unfeasible. The bronze plate acts as the bearing surface, withstanding heavy loads, while the graphite inserts provide a solid, oil-free lubricant. As with all of our variable supports, these were quality checked with a 100% spring coil deflection test and a load cell calibration to set the assembly at the prescribed installed load.

U-Type Constant Spring Supports Designed For An Lng Plant In Canada

PT&P designed U-Type constant spring supports for an LNG plant in Canada. These are horizontal constants designed to support piping from below where the base plate is bolted directly to the top of the steel or the foundation using anchor bolts. These specific constant springs are designed to support an operating load of 67,420 lb. with 6” of total upwards travel. The constants are fabricated from galvanized carbon steel for protection against corrosion. Standard load and travel testing were completed to ensure the quality and performance of these constants.

300 Variable Spring Supports Designed For A Furnace Application At A Methanol Processing Facility

PT&P designed and fabricated 300 variable spring supports for use in a furnace within a methanol processing facility in Mexico. We manufactured the ”housing” of these variable springs using seamless pipe (in order to prevent the springs’ coils from rubbing against the ”weld seam” of a standard pipe) so that the exact spring rate (+/- 5%) can be calculated without discrepancies or variations. The reason that an accurate spring rate is important is because furnace springs function as a ”scale” in order to determine the weight of the radiant coils within the unit. These springs are coated with red oxide primer to protect against corrosion. We manufactured these furnace spring assemblies for an operating load of 1,036 lb. and a movement up to 8 1/2″. Each spring is traceable to test data and tagged with its’ unique spring rate along with other standard information use for identification.
