Hydraulic Snubber Assemblies for a LNG Processing Facility in Peru
These hydraulic snubber assemblies were designed with maximum load capacities ranging from 1700 lb. to 59,400 lb. All of the snubbers were provided with an overall stroke of 6” and were preset to the midpoint of the total stroke, meaning that during operation, these snubbers could accommodate piping deflections of +/- 3” from the installed position.
The piston diameters range from 1-1/2″ to 6″ and the total assembly length ranges from 31-1/2″ to 220″. The largest assembly required a custom extension section to eliminate the risk of buckling under compression loads. Two-thirds of the assemblies included dual end brackets and the remaining assemblies included an end bracket/clamp combination. The housing, extension piece and end brackets are fabricated from carbon steel, while the cylinders, pins and two of the end brackets are fabricated from polished stainless steel. Standard “lock and bleed-down” tests were performed prior to shipping to a LNG processing facility in Peru.

These sliding cryoshoes are fabricated from carbon steel with 2″ thick polyurethane insulation. The polyurethane is 20 lb. density, which has a compressive strength of 500 psi and a tensile strength of 600 psi. The cold shoes are designed for temperatures as low as -300°F and for loads up to 3,500 lb. They will be used to support a 60″ diameter low temperature vapor line in a Texas facility.

Replacement Constant Spring Supports with Neoprene Coating for a Highly Corrosive Application at a Salt Water Cooler Tower

PT&P received a call to inspect spring supports in operation at a salt water cooler tower. It was quickly determined that replacement supports would be needed due to the heavy corrosion of the original supports not fabricated by PT&P.

A total of 40 constant and variable spring supports were fabricated as replacements. Each support was sealed with a neoprene coating over a hot-dip galvanized finish instead of stainless steel. This type of finish will ensure a much longer life-span. The spring supports ranged in loads from 800 lb. to 15,000 lb. with various travel ranges.

Read MoreVariable Spring and Cro-Moly 3-bolt Clamp Assemblies for a Power Generation Facility
The variable spring and clamp assemblies are fabricated using a combination of carbon steel for the housing and internal components, spring steel for the spring coils, and Cro-Moly (A-387 GR. 22) for the high temperature 3-bolt clamps. This pipe hanger assembly is an example of PT&P’s standard variable spring design wherein multiple coils are arranged in series to produce adequate load carrying capacity and coil deflection to compensate for the anticipated pipe movement. These particular assemblies are capable of an overall load range of 9,320 lb. to 15,970 lb. with a total travel range of 5″. All pipe hanger assemblies underwent standard load and travel testing, 100% deflection testing, and load cell calibration before shipping to a power generation facility.

The slide plate assemblies are fabricated from stainless steel, phosphorus bronze, and carbon steel. The 2″ thick carbon steel base plate is securely anchored to a concrete foundation, and the stainless steel slide plates are affixed to the base plate by countersunk attachment bolts. The phosphorus bronze slide plates, with machined grooves on the underside are placed on top of the stainless steel plates.

To allow for lubrication between to the contact surfaces of the two slide plates, grease is added through a fitting on the side of the bronze slide plate. The fitting allows access to a channel in the center of the bronze slide plate that leads to the grooves. A hole is located in the 2″ thick base plate to allow for grout to be poured through after installation.
